Implant Supported Fixed Full Denture
The installation of 6 -10 implants in each arch will allow us to turn uncomfortable, ill-fitting full dentures into flawless fixed bridges that mimic natural teeth. Since this would be a fixed prosthesis, the patient doesn’t have to worry about anything becoming loose or falling out when eating or exercising. As with any other fixed bridge, the patient must maintain good oral hygiene involving routine brushing and flossing. Also, it is recommended that the patient keep up with routine periodontal maintenance appointments in 3 month intervals. This is to help ensure the longevity and periodontal health of these dental implants.
For the replacement of missing teeth, Implant Dentistry is the most advanced therapy available to patients today. Once placed, a dental implant looks, feels, and functions almost exactly like a natural tooth. Dentists and oral surgeons have been practicing Implant Dentistry for decades, making it an established and highly regarded treatment. Breakthroughs and advances in research have afforded today’s dentist with new implant designs, surface textures and procedures that allow for earlier restorations. Given the right circumstances, a patient can have a dental implant placed and a crown restored on the day of the extraction.
For a single missing tooth, one implant is usually sufficient to fill the space and restore proper function of the tooth. However, if a tooth has been absent for 6 to 12 months or longer, the bone may show signs of atrophy. In these cases, it becomes necessary to perform a clinical and radiographic evaluation in order to determine if bone or gum grafting is needed. These evaluations help the implantologist determine the best approach that will result in an ideal foundation and placement of the dental implant. This methodical approach ensures longevity and reliability of the implant for the future.
